Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has urged political leaders in the state to see politics as a platform for service and development rather than division.
The governor made the remark on Wednesday while presiding over the 187th meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Yenagoa.
The weekly council session brought together commissioners and senior government officials to deliberate on policy matters, ongoing projects and other key administrative issues affecting the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Diri commended residents for maintaining peace and stability despite the tense political atmosphere, noting that the calm environment had enabled government programmes and activities to continue smoothly across the state.
He stressed that political differences should not weaken the sense of unity and brotherhood among Bayelsans.
According to the governor, politics should serve as a means of improving the lives of the people and advancing development in the state rather than creating unnecessary divisions.
During the meeting, the Commissioner for Education, Gentle Emelah, presented an award of excellence from the National Examinations Council (NECO) to Governor Diri in recognition of Bayelsa State’s outstanding performance in the council’s examinations over the past 25 years.
