In what political observers are calling one of the most significant realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Coalition of Atiku Support Groups Initiative (CASGI), widely regarded as Atiku Abubakar’s largest coalition of support groups, paid a solidarity visit to the Obidient Movement Headquarters in Life Camp, Abuja, and publicly declared support for Peter Obi.
The historic meeting, which has since gone viral across X and other online platforms, ended with CASGI announcing the collapse and full integration of its nationwide structure into the Obidient Movement. The delegation was received by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National and Global Coordinator of the Obidient Movement and a key figure in the Peter Obi presidential project.
“We Are Following the Man Who Knows the Road”
Speaking on behalf of CASGI, the coalition’s National Chairman stated that the decision was reached after months of consultations across all six geopolitical zones. According to him, the Obidient Movement represents the only credible platform capable of birthing the New Nigeria that Nigerians desperately yearn for.
“We have followed Atiku for years out of loyalty and belief in his capacity. But today, Nigeria needs more than capacity. Nigeria needs character, competence, compassion, and a proven track record of fiscal discipline. We see all of that in Peter Obi,” he said.
He added that the group’s decision mirrors the political journey of millions of Nigerians who have moved from PDP to Labour, to ADC, and now to NDC in search of a vehicle that can deliver genuine change. “No matter how many times they change the goal post, we keep on keeping on. We must follow the man who knows the road to a New Nigeria,” he declared to loud applause.
Dr. Yunusa Tanko: “This Is Beyond Politics, It’s a National Rescue Mission”
Receiving the delegation, Dr. Yunusa Tanko described the merger as a “national rescue mission” and not mere political horse-trading.
“CASGI coming into the Obidient family is a powerful statement that Nigerians are no longer interested in old alliances that have failed them. This is about competence over cronyism, service over self, and people over politics,” Tanko said.
He assured the new entrants that the Obidient Movement remains an open platform for all Nigerians who believe in accountability, transparency, and production over consumption. He further reiterated that the movement’s loyalty is not to party names but to the vision of a Nigeria that works for all.
Part of a Bigger Wave of Realignments
CASGI’s move comes barely a fortnight after the Kwankwasiyya Movement made a similar gesture, with key leaders in Kano and the North West pledging support for Peter Obi and the NDC. Since Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso formally decamped from the ADC and joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the party has witnessed a steady influx of political heavyweights.
In the last five days alone, former governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and thousands of grassroots mobilizers have decamped from the PDP, APC, and ADC to join the NDC. Political analysts note that the NDC is fast becoming the “Third Force” that Nigerians have demanded for decades.
Social Media Reacts: “The Tsunami Is Real”
News of CASGI’s integration spread rapidly on X, Facebook, and WhatsApp, with hashtags like #ObiTsunami, #NDCThePeoplesParty, and #WeKeepOnKeepingOn trending within hours.
One viral post read: “First Kwankwasiyya, now CASGI. The old order is collapsing. The New Nigeria is not a dream anymore. It is a movement.”
Another user wrote: “Atiku’s biggest support base just joined Obi. If you still think 2027 is business as usual, you haven’t been paying attention.”

What This Means for 2027
The momentum currently enjoyed by Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement is no longer just social media noise. With CASGI’s grassroots structure spread across 774 LGAs, and Kwankwasiyya’s famed political machinery in the North, the NDC is consolidating a nationwide ground game that few can match.
Political strategists point to three factors driving the realignment:
- Trust Deficit in Old Parties: Years of unfulfilled promises have eroded faith in the PDP and APC.
- Peter Obi’s Brand of Governance: His record in Anambra, his frugality, and his consistent message of “no shishi” continue to resonate with millions of Nigerians.
- The Power of the Obidient Base: From street marches to data-driven mobilization, the Obidient Movement has shown a capacity to convert online energy into offline structure.
The Road Ahead
With the NDC National Convention scheduled for Saturday, 9th May 2026, sources within the party confirm that more high-profile defections will be unveiled. The convention is expected to finalize a broad-based coalition aimed at presenting a united opposition front in 2027.
For now, the message from Life Camp is clear: The journey to freedom is not a walk across the garden. It is a marathon of sacrifice, strategy, and stamina. And as more Nigerians cross over to join the march, the dream of a New Nigeria where things are properly done looks less like a slogan and more like an inevitability.
As Dr. Tanko told the crowd after the meeting, “When history is written, it will record that when Nigeria stood at the crossroads, ordinary Nigerians chose to stand with a man who refused to steal from them. That choice will translate to victory in 2027
