The global footprint of Nigeria’s energy sector reached a new milestone this week as a tanker belonging to Rivers State-based Belemaoil Producing Limited was sighted in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Yesterday, maritime observers and regional insiders, including the prominent NigerDelta Insider, reported that the vessel, bearing the bold “Belemaoil” name, was successfully making its way through the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman.
The sighting has sparked plenty of talk in the Port Harcourt business community, as it signals a big move into international oil trading by the firm founded by Kalabari oil mogul and philanthropist, Tein Jack-Rich.
Despite the heavy tension in the Middle East where naval activity remains high and unpredictable maritime tracking confirmed that the Belemaoil vessel was not stopped or seized. Instead, the tanker appeared to be moving steadily through the chokepoint, which handles nearly a fifth of the world’s daily oil supply.

Industry analysts say that seeing a Nigerian indigenous company in these waters shows that Belemaoil is looking far beyond its home base at OML 55 in the Niger Delta to compete on the world stage.
This successful trip comes at a time when many shipping companies are staying away from the area due to regional conflicts. However, under the leadership of its new management team led by CEO Ahmadu Sambo and CFO Emmanuel Onos, both with decades of experience in oil finance Belemaoil seems to be holding its own.
Since late 2024, the company has been on a drive to revamp its joint ventures and unlock new value, with Tein Jack-Rich focusing on big-picture partnerships that take the company’s brand across international borders.
As of Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, the Belemaoil tanker is reported to be continuing its journey in the Gulf of Oman, with its tracking signals active as it heads toward its next destination.
