NITDA, CAC Activate Cyber Security Measures After System Hack

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have stepped up cybersecurity measures following a breach that affected CAC’s digital platform.

In a statement issued on April 17, both agencies said they have begun joint efforts to secure affected systems and prevent further exposure of sensitive data. NITDA directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to urgently assess their cybersecurity systems and take immediate steps to strengthen them.

This includes identifying vulnerabilities, fixing security gaps, and tightening access to critical infrastructure. Government agencies were also asked to improve data protection practices, ensure proper backup systems are in place, and enhance early detection of suspicious activity on their networks.

The agency said institutions must also have clear response plans for cyber incidents, including prompt reporting of breaches to allow faster intervention. According to NITDA, the directive is in line with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021, which outlines security standards for public digital systems.

The action follows confirmation from CAC that parts of its platform were accessed without authorisation, raising concerns over the safety of corporate records stored on the system.Both agencies said work is ongoing to stabilise the platform and reduce the risk of further attacks.
