Akintoye Blazes to 200m Personal Best, Signals Strong Outdoor Intent

Nigerian sprinter Blessing Akintoye kicked off her outdoor season in style, clocking a new personal best of 22.95 seconds to win the women’s 200 metres at the Jo Meaker Classic.

The impressive run not only secured victory but also saw Akintoye break her own school record, highlighting her rapid development on the track. Her time now places her among the elite in collegiate athletics, moving her into the Top 10 on the NCAA Division II all-time list for the event.

The performance has also strengthened her position on the national stage, as she climbs into Nigeria’s U-23 rankings, currently sitting as the fourth fastest over the 200 metres this season.

Akintoye’s outdoor form builds on a strong indoor campaign, where she claimed the 400m title in the NCAA Division II, demonstrating her versatility across sprint events.

With the season still in its early phase, her latest achievement signals even greater potential ahead, as she continues to refine her speed and race execution. All eyes will now be on the rising Nigerian star to see how far she can push her limits in the months to come.
