Diri Urges Massive Turnout for Tinubu’s Bayelsa Visit

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has called on residents to come out in large numbers ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit on April 10, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, the governor spoke during an Easter service at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Sampou, in his hometown of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

The governor described the visit as an important moment for the state and a chance for Bayelsans to demonstrate their well-known hospitality to visitors.

Diri noted that the projects scheduled for inauguration during the one-day trip were key to advancing the state’s economic growth and long-term development.

Reiterating his administration’s focus on development, the governor said ongoing infrastructure efforts would help position Bayelsa as a destination for investment and tourism.

The 66-year-old highlighted the 60-megawatt gas turbine project as a major step towards improving electricity supply, stressing that reliable power remains vital to economic progress.

The former Senator also pointed to the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge as a landmark achievement for the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Reflecting on the Easter celebration, Diri urged residents to remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and its significance.

Among those present at the service were the governor’s wife, Gloria Diri; Deputy Governor Peter Akpe; Head of Service Wisdom Sawyer; and Acting Chief of Staff, Government House, Irorodamie Komonibo.
