Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has decorated Samuel Ebikebina Debekeme following his promotion to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).
The decoration ceremony took place at the governor’s office in Yenagoa on Wednesday, according to a statement shared on the state government’s official Facebook page.
Congratulating the senior police officer, who hails from Ndoro in Ekeremor Local Government Area, Diri described the promotion as a reward for dedication and consistent service.
He urged Debekeme to remain committed to his duties and continue to uphold professionalism in his career. The governor also encouraged other Bayelsans in public service to stay focused and diligent, noting that hard work often brings its own rewards.

Several top officials attended the ceremony, including the Leader of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Monday Bubou Obolo; the Coordinator of the Bayelsa Community Safety Corps, retired Brigadier-General Eric Angaye; Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 16, Johnson Adenola; and the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel, alongside other government and security personnel.
Debekeme’s elevation formed part of a wider promotion exercise approved by the Police Service Commission (PSC), which saw 18 Assistant Commissioners of Police advanced to the rank of Deputy Commissioner.
The commission also promoted 13 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General, while 17 Deputy Commissioners were elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police.
In addition, 35 Chief Superintendents of Police were upgraded to Assistant Commissioners, according to a statement issued in early March by PSC spokesperson, Torty Njoku Kalu.
