Education Commissioner Seeks Staff Cooperation to Drive Reforms in Rivers

In a well attended meeting of members of staff, the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peter Nwagor, has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing transformative education policies.

Nwagor revealed during the meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, that the policies would foster inclusive and equitable learning across the sector.

Addressing the academic staff at the Assembly Hall of Government Girls Secondary School, Rumuokwuta, the commissioner said his mission is to equip youths of the state with the requisite knowledge, skills and value needed to drive sustainable development and secure enduring prosperity for the state.

In his words, Nwagor explained that the “Ministry of Education is saddled with the critical responsibility of implementing government policies and programmes on education in line with the vision and development agenda of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State.

“I want to charge members of staff to work together as a formidable and united team to translate the governor’s vision for education into reality.

“I cannot succeed alone and therefore I call for cooperation and dedication among staff. We must work together as a formidable and united team to translate the Governor’s vision for education into reality. I cannot achieve this alone; I need your cooperation, dedication, and expertise. Your constructive ideas and suggestions are highly welcomed.”

Further, the education commissioner commended Fubara, for the appointment. “I want to appreciate the governor for finding me worthy to serve as Commissioner for Education, and pledge to discharge my responsibilities with dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to excellence.”

In her welcome speech to the commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, urged members of staff to work with him in moving the Ministry forward, while the Director of Administration, Mr. Emmanuel Dappa, thanked members for attending the meeting and pledged their support towards the advancement of education in the state.
