Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been urged to immedißately initiate the process to recruit staff into the State owned Media and cultural outfits.
Making this call via a statement on Sunday 15 March 2026, The immediate past National Vice President of the Radio Television Theatre and Arts Workers union RATTAWU, South South zone, Rt Comrade Christian Saro Ganale said over fifty percent of the workforce in these organizations have retired from active service.
Rt. Comrade Ganale said the role which these media outfits play in shaping opinions and improving the tourism potential of the State cannot be overemphasized.
Rt. Comrade Christian Saro Ganale who is also a former Rivers State Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress said the situation in the state owned Media and cultural outfits is making room for slave labour in the affected stations making it difficult for the affected stations to function properly.
“The RIvers State Government conducted the last employment in 2007 into existing vacancies in the state owned Media and cultural outfits and as it stands now, over fifty per cent of those employed are now retired”
The RATTAWU Former National Vice President stated that those assisting the remaining staff as casual workers are not recognized by employment laws of the nation.
He challenged the Rivers State Government to conduct a personnel audit to ascertain his claim if not less than seventy staff are currently working in each of the affected stations.
Rt Comrade Ganale said the only way the present administration can function properly as the 2027 general election approaches is to declare a massive employment into the state owned Media and cultural outfits.
