Rivers NYSC Boss Honoured For Youth Development, Anti-Drug Advocacy

In recognition of his dedication to youth development and anti-drug campaigns, the Grow Africa Youth Initiative has conferred the ‘Kwame Nkrumah Prize’ on the Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Mr Moses Oleghe.

The youth body which is spread across Africa bestowed the award for leadership excellence on Oleghe who they described as an icon of nation building.

A statement by the NYSC PRO, Mr Christian Okereke, on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, revealed that they commended the NYSC boss for the sensitization and awareness campaigns carried out to educate corps members and their host communities on the danger of drug abuse.

Presenting the award, Grow Africa Youth Initiative County Director and President, Mr. Temple Ozim said “the NYSC coordinator is a complete gentleman, an astute administrator, he is youth friendly and a leader who is concerned about the welfare of others.

“His recognition for this meritorious award for his dedication and commitment to youth development and anti-drug campaigns is apt and well deserved.

“This award is tied to the state coordinator’s enormous contributions and sacrifices in propagating the war against drug abuse by the youths, as well as youth’s growth, development, and empowerment.”

Further, Ozim appreciated Oleghe over what he described as his “welfarist agenda for both staff and corps members, which stood him out amongst contemporaries for the award.”

In his response, the NYSC coordinator commended the leadership of the youth group, describing the award as a call to do more. “I think the leadership of Grow Africa Youth Initiative for their gesture. This nomination and recognition is indeed a pleasant surprise.

“For me, this recognition is not a well done but a do more award and I want to assure you that we will not relent. All we do is  guided by the fear of God, good conscience and the good of humanity irrespective of tribe, ethnicity or religious persuasion, it’s not for human praise or award. I deeply appreciate this.

“This award has spurred me to do greater things in my small circle of leadership through determination, commitment, and dedication, especially in the fight against drug abuse amongst youths.”

Oleghe further assured that the NYSC Drug Free CDS group would be reinvigorated and reenergized for optimum performance, while the scheme’s collaboration with the NDLEA will be strengthened and more robust.
