The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate following the rescue of a Rivers State resident identified as Mr Hassan, who was abducted on September 6, 2026.
According to a statement from the Command, police received credible information on September 7 at about 10:00 a.m. regarding the kidnapping, which took place near Fidelity Bank, Garrison, in Port Harcourt. The victim was reportedly taken to Igbugulu Waterside, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, where he was held for three days before being released after his relatives paid a ₦10.3 million ransom.
Upon receiving the information, the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) launched intelligence-led operations that led to the arrest of two suspected gang members: Victor Ifeanyi, 24, also known as “Big Boby,” from Aguleri Community in Otuocha LGA, Anambra State; and Aniekan Okon Michael, 36, also known as “Duff Man,” from Ikot Ukpor in Essien Udim LGA, Akwa Ibom State.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both suspects confessed to their involvement and disclosed that the syndicate comprises six members who used a white minibus (commonly referred to as a Keke bus) during the operation. The Command said it has intensified efforts to track down and arrest the remaining members of the gang.
Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, appealed to members of the public to share any credible information that could help identify and apprehend criminal suspects, assuring them that such tips would be treated confidentially.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to deploying intelligence-led operations to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across the state, while urging residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with security agencies.
