NDDC pushes to complete legacy projects in Rivers State

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its determination to deliver key legacy infrastructure in the region, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive.

The Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Mr Chiedu Ebie, On Thursday, March 5, led members of the Board and the agency’s executive management on an inspection tour of two major projects in Rivers State: the 1.2-kilometre Kaa-Ataba Bridge connecting Khana and Andoni Local Government Areas, and the Orthopaedic and Cardiovascular Hospital in Port Harcourt.

Mr. Ebie expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far on both sites, assuring that the commission would work closely with contractors to ensure timely completion.

He highlighted the Kaa-Ataba Bridge as one of the commission’s most significant infrastructure interventions, aimed at boosting connectivity between communities and stimulating economic activities in the area.

“The project aligns fully with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Ebie said during the visit. “We are committed to delivering it on schedule.”

The NDDC boss who also inspected the Niger Delta Regional Hospital, a specialised medical facility featuring cardiovascular and orthopaedic units described it as a reflection of the commission’s broader commitment to strengthening not only physical infrastructure like roads and bridges but also critical sectors such as healthcare.

He said once completed and equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, the hospital will dramatically improve healthcare delivery across the Niger Delta region.

The NDDC board chairman disclosed plans to operate the facility through strategic partnerships with hospital management experts to guarantee efficient service delivery and position it as a centre of excellence serving both the region and the nation.

He expressed optimism that the projects would be commissioned as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, underscoring the NDDC’s resolve to complete all legacy initiatives in the Niger Delta as directed by the president.
