JAMB Targets N23.8bn Revenue for 2026, Expands UTME Centres

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has told the Senate it plans to generate N23.8 billion as internally generated revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, an increase of N4 billion from its 2025 estimate.

This projection was presented as part of the board’s 2026 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund by a director representing the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede.

According to the board, N6 billion from the anticipated revenue will be paid into the Federation Account as operating surplus. In total, JAMB proposed a budget of N30.6 billion for 2026, with the bulk expected to come from internally generated sources.

Reviewing its 2025 performance, the examination body disclosed that it realised N18.5 billion in IGR and remitted N4 billion to the Federation Account within the fiscal year.

On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, JAMB revealed that it has increased the number of examination centres nationwide to 1,000, up from fewer than 800 used in 2025. The move is aimed at improving candidates’ access and easing examination logistics across the country.

While commending the board’s financial progress and operational improvements, lawmakers also called for a further reduction in the UTME registration fee, which currently stands at N3,500. JAMB noted that the fee was previously N5,000 before it was reduced by the present administration.
