Police Launch Manhunt as Man Hacks Sibling to Death

The Rivers State Police command has launched manhunt for Mr Nwalozie Chiwendu, for allegedly killing his elder brother, Mr Chidiebere Isaiah over witchcraft allegation.

Also, youths of Ofeh Community in Omuma Local Government Area, declared search for Nwalozie who was said to have fled the community after the incident that happened on Thursday evening, February 12, 2026.

The suspect and victim are of same family in Umunwacha village, in Ofeh Community, Omuma LGA of the state.

The suspect was accused of inflicting multiple machete injuries all over his brother’s body who he said hindered his progress with witchcraft.

Confirming the incident to newsmen on Friday, February 13, 2026, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Irinke-Koko, revealed that Nwalozie used a cutlass to carry out the act.

Irinke-Koko also confirmed that the corpse of the victim had been retrieved and deposited in a mortuary while effort has been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The PPRO said, “information at my disposal indicates that the suspect used cutlass to machete the victim to death after accusing him (victim) of witchcraft that made him(suspect) not to prosper.

“The corpse has been retrieved, deposited in the Mortuary and a manhunt has been launched for the suspect with a view to arresting and bringing him to face the law in compliance to the directive of Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju.”

On his part, the Ofeh Youth President, Mr Chinonso Favour Chima, expressed dismay over the incident which he described as a very unfortunate situation.

Chima narrated that on the day the incident happened, “I got a call from some of my community persons telling me of the sad incident that happened between two brothers of the same compound. I cannot tell what happened but the story is that the younger one carried cutlass butchered his elder brother like meat.

“Before people who were around could come he ran away after carrying out the devilish act. So I told them to quickly rush him to the hospital. On their way to the hospital the man died.

“It’s a murder case so I told them we cannot deposit him in the mortuary. We reported to the nearest Police division within us here, notifying them of what happened and Police have taken note of it.”

The youth leader assured that efforts were been made to arrest Nwalozie who he said was on the run. “Community has declared a search for him everywhere, we are searching for him to get him so that he can face the full wrath of the law.

“We have deposited the deceased in the mortuary. I have also tried to address the community and ask everybody to stay calm let us not take laws into our hands. Let us not cause more panic in the community.”

TPCN gathered that the  incident has been reported to Eberi Police Division in the LGA.
