Man Flees After Butchering Brother To Death In Omuma LGA

A manhunt has been launched for Mr. Nwalozie Chiwendu, who allegedly used a cutlass to kill his elder brother, Mr. Chidiebere Isaiah, in Umunwacha village, Ofeh community, Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday, 12 February 2026. Photos of the victim’s body, seen by reporters, showed multiple machete wounds. Speaking to journalists, the Youth President of the Ofeh community, Mr. Chinonso Favour Chima, described the killing as deeply unfortunate.

He said he received distress calls from residents about a violent altercation between two brothers from the same compound. According to him, before community members could intervene, the suspect allegedly attacked his elder brother with a cutlass and fled the scene.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but died on the way. The case was subsequently reported to the nearest police division, and the body was deposited in a mortuary. Mr. Chima added that the community has begun a search for the suspect while urging residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

He noted that consultations with community stakeholders are ongoing and that the situation is currently under control. The incident has been reported to the Police Division in Eberi. The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the development.

She stated that preliminary information indicates the suspect allegedly accused the victim of witchcraft, claiming it was responsible for his lack of progress, before carrying out the attack. She added that the corpse has been recovered and deposited in a mortuary, while security operatives have launched a manhunt on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, to arrest the suspect and ensure he faces the law.

Authorities have urged anyone with useful information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
