5,000 Rivers Women Set for ₦100,000 Empowerment Grant

No fewer than 5,000 women across Rivers State are set to benefit from a ₦100,000 empowerment grant under the Rivers Women Support Stimulus (RWSS), an initiative aimed at strengthening women’s economic capacity and improving household stability.

The programme guarantees that at least 200 women from each of the state’s 23 Local Government Areas will receive the financial support. Organisers said the initiative will also accommodate market women and non-indigenes residing in the state to ensure broader inclusion and equitable access to the intervention.

The empowerment scheme is being implemented by Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) in partnership with the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. It is part of ongoing efforts to provide targeted support for vulnerable women while promoting grassroots economic participation across the state.

According to the organisers, the intervention is designed to boost small-scale businesses, enhance productivity, and strengthen the financial resilience of women, particularly those facing economic hardship. They noted that women remain central to family welfare and community development, making targeted empowerment critical to sustainable social progress.

Stakeholders involved in the programme said the initiative aligns with broader policies of the state government aimed at inclusive development and poverty reduction. They added that empowering women economically could contribute significantly to local enterprise growth, improved living standards, and stronger community networks.

The Rivers Women Support Stimulus also reflects ongoing efforts by the Fubara administration to promote people-centred governance by supporting groups considered vital to socio-economic advancement.

Beneficiaries are expected to utilise the funds for productive ventures capable of generating income and enhancing livelihoods. Organisers expressed optimism that the programme will not only provide immediate relief but also foster long-term economic empowerment for women across Rivers State.
