NMDPRA Shuts 11 Fuel Stations in Rivers

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has sealed 11 petrol filling stations in Rivers State for violating operational standards, including under-dispensing fuel, operating faulty pumps, and other regulatory breaches.

The affected stations are located across Obio-Akpor and Port Harcourt City Local Government Areas.

Speaking to journalists after the enforcement exercise on Friday, the South-South Regional Coordinator of NMDPRA, Victor Owodiasa, said the action was carried out under the agency’s ongoing “Operation One Litre for One Litre” monitoring initiative.

Owodiasa explained that the programme is designed to protect consumers and ensure they receive the correct quantity of petroleum products paid for at filling stations.

According to him, the authority has intensified its surveillance to enforce compliance, warning that any station found operating outside approved dispensing limits would be shut down.

“During today’s operation, a total of 11 facilities were sealed, and they will remain closed until the integrity of their pumps is verified and corrected,” he said.

He added that stations identified as repeat offenders risk having their operating licences withdrawn, stressing that compliance goes beyond temporary adjustments.

Owodiasa further noted that the same regulatory standards apply to both petrol and gas dispensing outlets, warning that any form of cheating, whether deliberate or caused by mechanical faults, would attract sanctions.

He emphasized that the authority maintains zero tolerance for under-dispensing, over-dispensing, or any other infringement.

Meanwhile, three gas outlets were also sealed for similar offences. Owodiasa urged members of the public to support the agency by reporting suspected violations for swift intervention.
