Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Rivers United have strengthened their squad with the signing of promising midfielder Clinton Ezekiel from Bayelsa United for an undisclosed transfer fee ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

‎The Port Harcourt-based club confirmed the acquisition as preparations intensify for both the new NPFL campaign and the CAF Champions League, where Rivers United will represent Nigeria following their impressive finish in the previous league season.

‎Ezekiel arrives after an impressive spell with Bayelsa United, where he established himself as one of the club’s most dependable midfielders.

His composure on the ball, passing range, vision and work rate earned him recognition as one of the emerging talents in the NPFL.

The midfielder played a crucial role in Bayelsa United’s campaign, consistently delivering strong performances that attracted interest from several top-flight clubs.

‎Rivers United head coach Finidi George is expected to rely on the youngster’s versatility to strengthen the club’s midfield options.

Ezekiel is capable of operating as a defensive or central midfielder, providing balance between defence and attack while contributing to the team’s overall tactical flexibility.

‎The signing is part of Rivers United’s ongoing recruitment drive as the club seeks to assemble a competitive squad capable of challenging for the NPFL title and making a strong impression in continental football.

The Pride of Rivers have already secured several additions during the transfer window as they continue rebuilding under Finidi’s leadership.

‎Speaking after completing the move, Ezekiel expressed delight at joining one of Nigeria’s biggest football clubs. He thanked Bayelsa United for providing the platform to develop his career and pledged to give his best for Rivers United.

‎Supporters have welcomed the signing, describing Ezekiel as a talented player with the potential to become a key figure in the Rivers United midfield. Many believe his energy, technical ability and determination will complement the club’s style of play.

‎With pre-season preparations in full swing, Ezekiel is expected to join his new teammates immediately as Rivers United continue fine-tuning their squad.

The club will hope the latest addition strengthens its quest for silverware in the 2026/27 season while enhancing its competitiveness in the CAF Champions League.
