Nigeria’s under-20 national soccer team, the Flying Eagles, have formally booked a semi-final of the ongoing WAFU B U-20 championship. The defending champions put on a dominant second-half performance to sweep aside the Sparrow Hawks of Togo in a 3-0 victory in Yamoussoukro on Thursday.
Head coach Abdu Maikaba made major tactical changes at half-time after an anxious, hard-fought first 45 minutes ended goalless. His players’ response was immediate and precise.
The leap forward came through forward striker Abdumuiz Adeleke, who clinically finished a quick team pass to put Nigeria ahead. Not wanting to settle for one goal, Adeleke continued to terrorize the backline of the competition, quickly doubling the lead with experience to finish off a first-class brace.

With Togo scrambling to find a response, Maikaba added new boots to seal the contest. Substitute Abdulle Agbeloye made an immediate impact off the bench, striking late in the match to make it 3-0 and lock up all three points.
Among the high-profile visitors at Yamoussoukro was senior national team head coach Eric Chele. The Franco-Malian strategist traveled to Côte d’Ivoire to keep an eye on the growing potential for the senior Super Eagles squad, especially to help set up the teenagers.
Speaking to reporters after getting in shape, Chele praised the tactical flexibility and high-pressure style of the crew.
