The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the tragic death of singer Ifunanya Nwangene, a former The Voice Nigeria contestant, who died after suffering a snake bite in Abuja.
The 26-year-old musician, popularly known as Nanyah, was reportedly bitten by a snake while asleep in her residence on January 31, 2026.
She woke up in distress and was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. However, reports indicate that the first hospital was unable to administer the required antivenom, forcing her loved ones to seek help elsewhere as her condition worsened.

She was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja, where she was admitted for treatment. Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, she passed away hours later. Ifunanya rose to national attention after appearing on Season 3 of The Voice Nigeria, where her powerful soprano voice and emotional performances earned her wide admiration. She was known for blending classical, jazz, opera and R&B influences and was steadily building her music career. At the time of her death, she was reportedly working on new projects and preparing for a major solo performance.
