RIWAMA Boss Pledges to Enhance Staff Welfare

In a bid to enhance operational efficiency and foster better collaboration, the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) has held a crucial stakeholders’ meeting with executives of staff unions and associations in Port Harcourt.

The Managing Director of RIWAMA, Dr. Ibimina Wokoma, used the occasion to charge workers to pursue professional advancement through seminars and workshops while calling on union leaders to tackle negative attitudes to work among staff.

Dr. Wokoma while announcing plans to revitalise the agency’s Safety and First Aid department, pledged to restore the sick bay facility, and establish an additional first aid post at dumpsites where heavy equipment operates.

He further assured that staff welfare packages and departmental requirements would undergo comprehensive review to address longstanding concerns.

Emphasising the importance of targeted development, the RIWAMA boss said:

“Before we engage in training and retraining, there is a need for a Skill Gap Analysis. This will bring you up to date with current realities of your profession, identify areas that need improvement, facilitate performance appraisal, and inform a comprehensive training plan.”

The meeting drew key figures including Mr. Cosmos, Director of Administration at RIWAMA; Lady Victoria N. Wobo, leader of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (RIWAMA Branch); Comrade Emmanuel Nyeweli of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE); and Comrade Aberiniboye Harry, representing the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (RIWAMA Unit).

The engagement was geared towards improving overall operations and prioritising employee welfare in the agency.

Union leaders commended Dr. Wokoma for his professional handling of administrative matters and pledged renewed commitment to supporting RIWAMA’s management in delivering effective waste management services across the state.
