Police Arrest Two Suspects, Recover Remains in Rivers Murder Case

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Sampson Worianime, a youth from Ogbogbo Community in Okrika Local Government Area, whose disappearance sparked widespread concern.

Worianime was reported missing on November 11, 2025, after he accompanied community youths to measure land at their old settlement. Following a petition from the victim’s distraught mother, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit swung into action, employing intelligence-led policing to track down the perpetrators.

The arrested suspects, identified as Igwe Alex, 26, the Chief Security Officer of Aleto-Eleme Community, and John Mikel, 24, both residents of Aleto-Eleme, reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation to abducting two youths from Okrika. While one escaped, Worianime was allegedly killed by the duo, who then dumped his body.

Acting on the suspects’ confession, police operatives were led to a shallow grave where the decomposed remains of the deceased were exhumed and recovered.

The suspects are currently in custody, assisting investigators with vital information, as efforts intensify to apprehend other fleeing accomplices linked to the heinous crime.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, has ordered a meticulous investigation, vowing that all those involved will face the full weight of the law.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to justice and public safety, urging residents to volunteer useful information to aid the probe.

The development has brought some relief to the victim’s family and community, amid calls for stronger measures against land-related violence in the state.
