Rivers PDP Suspends Caretaker Chair over Alleged Alignment with Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, following an emergency meeting of its Caretaker Committee (CTC) held in Port Harcourt on Saturday, announced the suspension of its Caretaker Committee Chairman, Robinson Ewor.

The party also suspended Ewor as a member, citing his alleged alignment with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

According to the PDP, Ewor was sighted with Wike during the minister’s ongoing “thank-you” visits to local government areas across the state, an action the party described as unacceptable.

Following the suspension, Ogbam Ojimah, Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, was announced as the new Chairman of the CTC with immediate effect.

The party stated that Ewor’s actions were capable of undermining and destabilising the PDP in Rivers State.

Speaking after the meeting, Ojimah reaffirmed his loyalty to the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP, insisting that Wike remained expelled from the party.

He added that Ewor had effectively resigned his position through his conduct and public alignment with the former governor.

Ojimah stressed that any form of association with Wike was unacceptable, noting that the minister had no right to interfere in the internal affairs of the party.

“The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State Chapter, after our meeting today, 3 January 2026, resolved to dissociate itself from all press statements and public utterances credited to Dr Nname Robinson Ewor, the former chairman,” he said.

He further reminded the public that Wike had already been expelled from the PDP and therefore had no authority to meddle in its affairs.

“By his actions and speeches, Dr Nname Robinson Ewor voluntarily relinquished his position as Caretaker Chairman. Consequently, the Caretaker Committee hereby formally suspended him as Chairman and member of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Rivers State. Members of the public are advised not to deal with him in that capacity,” Ojimah added.

Meanwhile, Baribefu Fidunko was appointed as the Acting Secretary of the PDP in Rivers State.

The party reiterated its commitment to repositioning the PDP for competitive elections and effective service delivery to the people of Rivers State under the leadership of Turaki.
