The need for the enactment of a legislation mandating people not to dispose of their used engine oil owing to its recyclable value has been emphasized.
The Managing Director of Bunorr Integrated Energy Limited stated this during a facility tour of the black oil recycling plant by Journalists led by officials of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) at Omagwa, Rivers State.
It is common knowledge that condemned engine oil from machine are usually changed periodically and disposed of, but what is alien to most persons is that these condemned oil are of great economic value.
The used engine oil recycling plant which was established with an equity investment of three point six million dollars from the NCDMB, is fully automated and recycles the condemned oil to a base oil which is used for the production of engine oil and others.
Managing Director of the company, Mr Okeke Ikechukwu said the facility with a tank farm housing over ten tanks with capacity of sixty thousand litres each is of very high quality.

While urging the Rivers State government to make power supply to Omagwa community, he appealed to the National Assembly to enact a Legislation to make it compulsory for people to supply used engine oil to blending plants for recycled use.
Explaining the process involved in the recycling of the black oil to base oil, Engineer Agboro Frank said they do not compromise the quality of their end product.
In a remark, the General Manager Corporate Communications of NCDMB, Dr Obinna Ezeobi represented by the Supervisor Government Relations, Mr Teddy Bai emphasized the need to discourage wastage of black oil.
Analysts say recycled engine oil used to produce other forms of oil might just be a cash cow that could trigger economic growth if serious attention is accorded to the product.
