NEPL Hits Record Crude Oil Output

The upstream arm of NNPC E&P Limited has announced a historic surge in crude oil production, marking its highest single-day output in more than three decades.

According to the company, it achieved 355,000 barrels of oil per day on December 1, 2025, its strongest performance since 1989 and a milestone that underscores its expanding role in national energy supply.

The breakthrough comes amid a dramatic rise in output over the past two years. Average daily production climbed from 203,000 barrels per day in 2023 to 312,000 barrels per day in 2025, representing a 52 per cent increase.

Company executives say the growth is not accidental but a result of deliberate reforms, operational discipline, and a renewed commitment to efficiency. The strategy includes stronger asset management practices, optimized field development, and streamlined processes aimed at reducing downtime across producing assets.

The parent company, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, praised the achievement as evidence of the sector’s ongoing transformation.

It’s the Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari described the development as proof that an “energy revival is already happening,” adding that the performance strengthens the country’s trajectory toward meeting presidential aspirations of 2 million barrels per day by 2027 and 3 million barrels per day by 2030.

Industry analysts say the record output is more than a symbolic win. It is viewed as a crucial confidence booster for investors who have long called for stability and operational improvements in the oil sector.

The milestone also provides fresh momentum for Nigeria at a time when the country is working to reverse years of production decline, security challenges, and infrastructure setbacks in the upstream space.

With production climbing and reforms deepening, experts believe NEPL’s latest performance may signal a turning point in national efforts to restore output, strengthen energy security, and rebuild global market credibility.
