Tinubu Nominates Former Rivers Administrator as Ambassador

The immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has been nominated by President Bola Tinubu as a non-career ambassadorial.

The Port City News (TCPN) reported that Tinubu appointed Ibas to rule Rivers State after he declared a state of emergency in March suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy and the members of the House of Assembly.

Ibas ruled the state for six months and then handed over power to Fubara after the state of emergency was lifted.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the nominations during plenary on Thursday.

Aside from Ibas, the other nominees are former presidential aide, Ita Enang; former Imo State First Lady, Chioma Ohakim; and former Minister of Interior and former Chief of Army Staff, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

Akpabio, who read Tinubu’s letter on the chamber’s floor, called on the Senate to immediately consider the nominees, so they can help fill key diplomatic positions.

Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom, then forwarded the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and directed the committee to screen the nominees and report back within one week.

The President asked the Senate to confirm the previous and newly forwarded names as career ambassadors and 17 nominees as non-career ambassadors.
