The Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in partnership with 4D Global Synergy NIG, has announced that this year’s citywide discount fair will run from December 5th to December 15th, 2025, offering Port Harcourt residents a rare chance to shop essential goods at significantly reduced prices during a period of intense economic pressure.
The announcement has already stirred excitement across the city, especially among households battling rising food prices and unstable supply chains. According to the ministry, the fair is designed to cushion the cost of living while also creating a platform for small and medium scale vendors to boost sales without the usual overhead burdens.
The 10 day event will bring together a wide range of traders, from foodstuff sellers and household item dealers to clothing retailers and small appliance vendors. Both the Ministry and 4D Global Synergy say vendors were carefully selected to ensure that products are genuine and that discounts are real, not the token reductions residents often complain about in regular markets.

For many participating businesses, the fair offers more than visibility. Stall fees have been heavily subsidized, while logistics and security support will be provided throughout the event to keep both traders and shoppers safe. Organizers say the aim is to create a marketplace where residents can shop confidently without worrying about inflated prices or crowd induced chaos.
Residents who spoke ahead of the opening say the timing is ideal, coming just before the festive season when expenses typically surge. Many also see it as a welcome intervention from the government, especially in a year when inflation, high transportation costs, and shrinking purchasing power have pushed basic goods out of reach for thousands of families.
With expectations already building, Port Harcourt is gearing up for what may become one of the most attended discount fairs the state has hosted. Organizers say final preparations are underway, and they expect a smooth opening when doors officially open on December 5.
