Super Eagles Needs Prayers- Etafia

As the play-offs for the 2026 FIFA World Cup approach, former Super Eagles goalkeeper Greg Etafia has urged for prayers to avert a scenario where crucial players of the Nigerian national team could miss the mini-competition due to injuries.

‎The African segment of the 2026 World Cup qualification playoffs is set to commence in Rabat, Morocco on November 13th. While recognizing the necessity for Nigeria to begin preparations early for the event, Etafia emphasized the importance of having all key players available as well.

‎The ex-goalkeeper of Plateau United of Jos and Moroka Swallows of South Africa further remarked that the competition will not be easy, yet he believes that the Eagles should be capable of overcoming Gabon in the opening match of the tournament.

‎He expressed that the performance displayed by the Eagles in their recent 4-0 victory over Benin Republic, along with the inclusion of top players such as Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, should not only secure a win against Gabon but also assist Nigeria in clinching the final on November 16th against either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.

‎Etafia stated, “It’s not going to be easy, but what I observed in Nigeria’s last match against Benin Republic showed some potential. Benin Republic differs from Gabon, but if our players perform on that day, they should achieve victory.

‎”We have both the former African best player and the current best player in our squad. Therefore, I believe we can qualify; however, everything must be well-organized.”

‎The former goalkeeper, who is currently a goalkeeping coach in South Africa, also urged the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to promptly initiate adequate preparations, as he highlighted that the crucial contest is imminent.

‎”November 13th is approaching quickly. Thus, the Federation must ensure that their organization of the team is properly arranged. The prayer, however, is for our key players to remain injury-free before that date,” Etafia requested.
