The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a sweeping victory in the recent local government elections held across Rivers State, winning 20 out of the 23 local government areas contested.
According to results officially announced by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which currently governs the state, managed to clinch only three LGAs.
In a surprising turn of events, the APC secured a win in Opobo-Nkoro Local Government Area—home to the sitting governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Dr. Michael Odey, Chairman of RSIEC, disclosed the outcome of the elections on Sunday during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters along Aba Road in Port Harcourt.

According to RSIEC’s official release, APC secured victory in the following 20 local government areas: Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku‑Toru, Andoni, Asari‑Toru, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Emohua, Etche, Gokana, Ikwerre, Khana, Ogu/Bolo, Okrika, Omuma, Opobo‑Nkoro, Oyigbo, Tai.
While the PDP secured chairmanship seats in these three LGAs: Obio-Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (often abbreviated ONELGA), Port Harcourt City (PHALGA).
