Rivers Women Call for End to Emergency Rule

Women in Rivers State, under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, have renewed their call for an end to the state of emergency imposed on the state since March.

The group made the appeal during its monthly prayer session held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Ecumenical Centre, Port Harcourt. With the theme “Divine Mercy and Peace,” the women prayed for the restoration of peace, mercy, and normalcy in the state, expressing hope that the governor and state assembly members would soon be reinstated.

The women noted that the prolonged situation has disrupted governance, economic activities, and the general well-being of families across the State. They urged the Federal Government to listen to the cries of the people and bring an end to the emergency rule without further delay.

They lamented that residents had endured six months of emergency rule and urged divine intervention to ensure its lifting. They also expressed gratitude for what they described as the peace and reconciliation already achieved among the state’s leaders.

In addition to prayers for Rivers State, the women prayed for Nigeria, its leaders, and for strength for families across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Comrade Glory Sunday, Media Officer of Rivers Women Unite for SIM, reiterated the group’s commitment to peaceful advocacy, unity, and continuous prayers until normalcy is fully restored in the State.
