Rivers Commissioner blasts FG over roads

Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Dum Deekor, has lambasted the Federal Government over failure to embark on roads construction in the state.

He made this known during a courtesy visit by a social media group ‘D Influencers’ in Port Harcourt to his office on Thursday.

He stated that the Federal Government has refused to refund Rivers State the money it spent on repairs of Federal roads in the state, saying that some states have been fully refunded.

“For those of our brothers who are in the APC, I challenge them, let them mention APC controlled states in Nigeria that have completed 30% of the projects we have completed in Rivers State.

“Now I also challenge them, let them point at one project from the Federal Ministry of works or whatever ministries, that you can find, you can see and you can feel in the entire stretch of Rivers State.

“The Rivers State Government has intervened in so many roads that belong to the Federal Government, yet we have not been refunded.

“Other states who have not spent even a percentage of what Rivers State Government has spent, they have made refunds to them.

He, however, warned that the State Government will not pay compensation to those in Tai- Eleme Local Government Area who are building on the right of way of the just flagged off Kira-Eteo road, saying such structures will be pulled down.

The leader of the new social media group ‘D influencers’, Dickson David, promised to ensure that social media platforms are used to promote peace and development in Rivers State.
