Lawyer Questions Legality of Sole Administrator Conducting Rivers State Local Government Elections

A lawyer and human rights advocate, Mr. Higher King, has stated that it is illegal for a sole administrator to conduct local government elections in Rivers State.

Speaking during an interview with our correspondent, Mr King explained that according to the Nigerian constitution, local government elections should be conducted under the elected governor of the state.

King also raised concerns about the 90-day notification period given to political parties ahead of the election. He noted that with the election date announcement made on June 28, the election should take place on September 28.

Describing the forthcoming local government election as a “waste of resources,” King urged the sole administrator to redirect funds earmarked for the election toward paying withheld salaries of civil servants and providing better welfare packages for the people of Rivers State.
