Ibinabo Fiberesima Set To Release Rivers Based Blockbuster, “Amanyanabo”

Anticipation is building for the upcoming release of Amanyanabo: The Eagle King, a monumental Nollywood production that is scheduled to hit cinemas across Nigeria on September 12. Before its national rollout, the film will have its world premiere in the United Kingdom on August 29, according to the producers.

The historical epic is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Fred Amata and boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including legendary actor Nkem Owoh, Monalisa Chinda, Columbus Irosanga, Uju Okoli, and Ibinabo Fiberesima herself in a leading role.

Veteran actress and producer Ibinabo Fiberesima, who is also a former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), recently unveiled the film’s official trailer via Instagram. Accompanying the trailer, she wrote, “The First of Its Kind! A movement, not just a movie.”

Amanyanabo: The Eagle King transports audiences back to the year 1892 in the Niger Delta, where it dramatizes the real-life story of King Ibanichuka, the final sovereign monarch of Okrika. The film explores his struggle against British colonial expansion and the internal conflicts that threatened his reign.

More than just a personal saga, the movie presents a vivid portrayal of an organized African city-state with established systems of governance and societal structures. By doing so, it challenges long-held misconceptions about pre-colonial African civilizations and offers a nuanced depiction of leadership, betrayal, and resistance.

Shot entirely on location in the creeks and wetlands of Okrika, the film captures the striking natural beauty of the Ijaw homeland while highlighting the enduring spirit and cultural richness of its people.
