The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kenya has announced a list of prohibited items that fans will not be allowed to bring into stadiums during the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from August 2 to 30.
Among the banned items are popular noise-making tools such as vuvuzelas, whistles, loudspeakers, and megaphones. These restrictions are part of broader safety and security measures being implemented for the tournament, which Kenya is co-hosting with Tanzania and Uganda.
The tournament will feature 19 teams competing across five stadiums in the three host nations. In Kenya, matches will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre (55,000 capacity) and the Nyayo National Stadium (18,000 capacity), both located in Nairobi. These venues will host Group A fixtures involving Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia.
The LOC has identified 13 categories of banned items to ensure the safety and comfort of fans, players, and officials. While the usual items like firearms, explosives, and sharp objects such as knives are expectedly restricted, the inclusion of items like vuvuzelas and whistles, traditionally used by fans to create atmosphere, has raised eyebrows.

Other items on the list include helmets, illegal substances, signal jamming devices, and banners deemed offensive or discriminatory based on race, religion, or politics. Additionally, fans will not be permitted to bring packaged food into the stadiums, with the exception of food purchased within the venue.
Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles (Team B) are placed in Group D and will play their matches in Tanzania. Their group opponents include defending champions Senegal, as well as Sudan and Congo.
