Ghana Beat South Africa to Clinch WAFCON Bronze

The Black Queens of Ghana beat Bayana Bayana of South Africa 4-3 on penalties after their 3rd place encounter ended 1-1 after full time.

In the 45th minute of the first half it was Bayana Bayana who took the lead through Nthandi, when the goal keeper of Ghana failed to clear her line exposing the ball and net to the Bayana Bayana midfielder. Though, the lead only lasted till the 68th minute of the encounter half when the Black Queens equalized through a Dlamini own goal.

The win meant that the Black Queens have beaten Bayana Bayana of South Africa for the second time in a bronze medal contest with the first coming in their encounter in 2016. Recall that in the group stage Bayana Bayana beat the Black Queens of Ghana 2-0 in their opening game.

The defending Champions would be disappointed for failing to pick any medal as a team who are recent champions but they won’t be the first to fail because even the great French team of 1998 failed to make it past the group stage of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
