Tame The Herdsmen Now – Eze Igbu Upata urges FG

The Eze Igbu Upata Kingdom, Eze Felix Enene Otuwarikpo and the entire Igbu Upata people have declared their sadness over news of fresh killings in Plateau at a time Nigerians are fervent in prayer for an end to the atrocious killings across the country.

The monarch said he and his people commiserate with the good people of Jos South, Riyom and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas and Plateau State in general over the latest eruption of violence.

The Eze Igbu Upata III pleaded with the people to trust constituted authorities’ ability to do their job of restoring peace within the shortest possible time, saying that the killing of over 120 innocent Nigerians by suspected herdsmen is despicable, cruel and highly ungodly and smacks of insensitivity and low respect to life.

In a statement by his special adviser on media, Monday Oyagiri, the king maintained that security agencies must step up and assure Nigerians that their security is guaranteed.

And to do this, the king stated, they must be proactive and must not be seen to be bias nor pander to the whims of any group, ethnic or religion.

He said: “They should go all out to immediately arrest the killers and bring them to book. The spate of killings is becoming too many for comfort.

” It is now obvious that the Federal Government has more to do to restore confidence by reining in the rampaging herdsmen who are daily pushing the country to the precipice.

“They must act fast to avoid plunging the country into needless crisis. The Federal Government should as a matter of immediate concern, put in place a programme that will disarm the killer herdsmen.

” The Igbu Upata people appreciate the Plateau State Government, particularly Governor Simon Lalong, whose quick intervention by way of declaration of dusk to dawn curfew averted what would have been a crisis of huge proportion.

“To a large extent, the governor’s immediate declaration stopped what would have been a serious security problem that could have hunted the country years to come.

“We pray God to grant repose to the souls of the deceased and also grant members of their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”
