Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has issued a public alert regarding online impersonation.
She issued the warning following the team’s dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening match of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The former Leicester City player, in her post-match comments to Ademola Victor TV, revealed that a fraudulent Facebook account has been falsely promising money to individuals while misusing her name.
She said there have been a lot of cases where people impersonate her, saying, “There’s a Facebook account that’s being taken down, but it is promising people money, and things like that, and that’s just not true.”
Plumptre further explained that while she does possess a personal Facebook account, it has been dormant for several years.
She added that if people want to follow her, she’s on Instagram because she doesn’t use Twitter that much.
“Any Facebook account is not me,” she emphasised.
Plumptre, who is anticipated to maintain her crucial role for the nine-time African champions as they pursue a record-extending tenth WAFCON title in Morocco, celebrated the team victory.
Plumptre, who was a pivotal presence for the entire 90 minutes at the Stade El Arbi Zaouli and played a key role in helping the Falcons achieve a clean sheet also acknowledged areas for improvement.
Falcons secured an early lead at the top of Group B on Sunday.

Plumptre urged her teammates to elevate their standards in both offensive and defensive aspects of their play.
“We will take this as a good stepping stone into the next game. Obviously, we will look back and see what we did well and what we need to improve on going into the next game,” she added.
“Because, I think attacking-wise and defensively, we probably could have been a little bit better in terms of our standards but we’re happy with the three points
