Dr Sokonte Davies, a close political associate of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, has announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he believes the ruling party offers him a better platform to serve Rivers State.
Davies made the announcement in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday evening, explaining that his decision followed consultations with friends, associates, family members and constituents.
He said he decided to return to the APC after considering where he could best advance the political and economic interests of Rivers State.
“My reason for the decision is to assess where I can best serve the political interest of my people and move Rivers State politically and economically forward amongst the comity of states in Nigeria,” he said.
Davies added that he was also committed to contributing to the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and promoting political stability in Rivers State.
In the statement titled “Return to the Progressive Family: My Decision to Rejoin the APC,” the former ADC chieftain said his return marked a new chapter in his political journey.
“Following the cessation of my membership of the ADC recently, I hereby announce my decision to return to the APC, a party in which I was privileged to be a foundational member,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the ADC, particularly at the national level, for the opportunity to serve and the relationships built during his time in the party.
Davies said he held no grudges against the ADC, stressing that political differences should not prevent people from maintaining mutual respect.
“Politics is a marketplace of ideas; we can disagree without being disagreeable,” he said.
He urged his supporters and associates to remain calm, law-abiding and focused, while calling on those who shared his political beliefs to join him in strengthening the APC.
“Let us join hands with like-minded progressives to build the party and serve our people. I call on all who share our ideals to join the APC as we work together for a better future,” he added.
Davies also thanked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, and the APC National Vice Chairman, Chief Victor Giadom, for welcoming him back and facilitating his return to the party.
