Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved ₦200,000 cash support for each of 35 households battered by recent flooding at Edmac Estate, Mercy Land, Nkpolu Extension, Rumuigbo.
Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, who chairs the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, announced the payout when she received estate residents at Government House on Monday.
She said the governor ordered the stipend after the floods forced families from their homes.
The state had already supplied food, other relief materials and enrolled the victims in the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme.

“His Excellency said beyond food items and health insurance, we should give a little stipend to the most vulnerable,” Odu told the delegation.
Alerts for the ₦200,000 payments have already started arriving, she added. This is the first phase of support.
Odu promised lasting solutions through the Ministries of Environment and Works. She blamed the estate’s low-lying terrain and human activities that block drains, noting that recent desilting of culverts has improved water flow. Residents were urged to keep the surroundings clean.
The deputy governor stressed that the aid covers everyone living in Rivers, not only indigenes.
“We are doing it for everybody that resides in Rivers State,” she said.
Estate security head Hilarry Uba, American resident Cliff Jarrell, and widow Amarachi Echele thanked the government for the swift help that has lifted spirits amid the hardship.
