Governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has pledged to forgo his salary and allowances as governor if elected, saying the funds would instead go toward supporting widows across Rivers State.
Lulu-Briggs pledged during a news conference in Buguma, where he promised to run an administration built on transparency, accountability, and personal sacrifice. He said he would follow the example of his presidential principal, Peter Obi, in making this sacrifice, and assured Rivers residents that every naira entrusted to his administration would be properly accounted for.

“When we have the opportunity to manage government resources, I can promise Rivers people that their every penny will be accounted for,” he said. “I’m sure I’m going to be like my principal, campaigning for President, Peter Obi. I will not even be asking for any salary. Every month, any salary will go into assisting one widow or the other.”
He added that his financial independence, built on his businesses, would allow him to serve without relying on government remuneration, noting that his enterprises would continue to sustain him even after leaving office. “The way we have gone, there will be no need to even give me a pension because I’m sure my businesses will still be running,” he said.
