The member representing Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Ogundu Chinda, has called for an urgent intervention to address the effects of the flood in the constituency and other parts of Rivers State.
Chinda, who toured the affected communities and facilities in Obio/Akpor on Tuesday, assessed the damage caused by the flood.
The lawmaker toured the Model Primary Health Care Centre, Eneka, Rumuawholu Community and Government Secondary School, among others, to assess the situation and the extent of damage.
While in the area, Chinda said the flood affected many communities in Rivers State, adding that it was time for the Federal and Rivers State Governments to declare a state of emergency in the affected communities of the state to enable them to intervene and rescue the victims of the situation.
He, however, identified some causes of the perennial flooding in the state and said measures to address it would require an immediate action plan as well as a long-term solution.
Chinda further said he and his deputy would certainly find a permanent solution to the perennial problem of flooding in Rivers State if they were allowed to govern.
The lawmaker, who was accompanied on his tour by the Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly and APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Major Jack; the member representing Port Harcourt State Constituency 1, Hon. Solomon Wami, among others.
He described the visit as a commitment to getting to the root of the problems facing the affected communities in order to address them in a way that would be a lasting solution for the people of Rivers State.
