The Rivers State Government has approved the immediate relocation of students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, to State Primary School, Nkpolu, both in Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, following severe flooding at the school premises.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, announced the temporary relocation in a press release issued on September 28, 2026, stating that the measure would take effect from Wednesday, September 30.
According to the Commissioner, the relocation became necessary to safeguard the lives, safety and overall well-being of students and staff after flooding took over the school premises.

Nwagor said the decision followed an assessment visit by the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, which inspected the school to evaluate the extent of the flooding.
He disclosed that the committee was currently working to identify the causes of the flooding and develop a lasting solution, with appropriate measures for immediate, medium- and long-term prevention.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Rivers State Government’s commitment to protecting the safety and welfare of students while ensuring uninterrupted education for children across the state.
The temporary relocation will see students and staff of Community Secondary School, Rumuapara, operate from State Primary School, Nkpolu, pending further measures to address the flooding situation.
