Rivers United made a powerful statement in Match Round 5, sweeping aside Kun Khalifat FC 5-0 on Wednesday in a dominant NPFL performance that saw the Pride of Rivers run riot in Port Harcourt.
The Pride of Rivers took control of the game in the 27th minute when A. Salman broke the deadlock, giving the hosts a deserved lead heading into the interval.
Rivers United returned from the break with even greater intensity and doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half through M. Chijioke.
Salman then completed his brace in the 58th minute, putting Rivers United firmly in command and leaving Kun Khalifat FC with a mountain to climb.
The home side showed no signs of slowing down as W. Falolu added a fourth goal shortly afterwards, turning the match into a rout.
E. Awazie completed the scoring six minutes from full time as Rivers United sealed an emphatic 5-0 victory.
The result capped a dominant performance from Finidi George’s side, who controlled the contest from the moment Salman opened the scoring.
Kun Khalifat FC struggled to find a response after falling behind, while Rivers United continued to press forward and punished their opponents with clinical finishing.
The five-goal victory gives Rivers United a major boost as they continue their NPFL campaign, while Kun Khalifat FC will have to regroup ahead of their next league fixture.
