The Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture, NDCCITMA, has reaffirmed its commitment to holding the Niger Delta Economic and Investment Summit despite an ongoing trademark dispute.
The chamber said the summit is aimed at promoting business, investment, innovation and industrial development across the Niger Delta.
NDCCITMA explained that it obtained a trademark acceptance letter for the summit’s name in August 2025, before event promoter Kenule Nwiya Junior and his company, Ken-Eva Consult Limited, filed their application.
It said its trademark application, numbered NG/TM/O/2025/387284, was submitted earlier than Nwiya’s, which was still pending as of September 2025.

The chamber also argued that the term “economic summit” is generic and widely associated with platforms that promote investment and economic development.
The legal dispute is currently before the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, with the next hearing fixed for September 22.
NDCCITMA said an interim injunction earlier issued by the court did not prevent it from organising the event, scheduled for September 15 to 17 at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre in Port Harcourt.
However, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case.
NDCCITMA said it would allow the courts to resolve the dispute while continuing its efforts to attract investment and stimulate business growth in the Niger Delta.
