The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, has disbursed ₦100 million to 100 beneficiaries from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area under the Agriculture to Wealth Programme – Phase III.
Amaewhule made the disbursement on Tuesday as the third phase of the empowerment initiative commenced, with each beneficiary receiving a ₦1 million grant to establish or expand agricultural enterprises.
The programme is designed to promote human capital development by equipping beneficiaries with practical agricultural skills and financial support to enable them to become economically productive and self-reliant.
The 100 beneficiaries underwent hands-on training in various areas of agriculture, including poultry production, livestock production, aquaculture and crop farming.
The training adopted a practical, farm-based approach, allowing participants to gain direct experience in agricultural production before receiving their grants.

Speaking at the commencement of the programme, Amaewhule said the initiative was conceived to provide beneficiaries with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to build sustainable livelihoods through agriculture.
He said agriculture remained a viable pathway to wealth creation, employment generation and economic empowerment, particularly for young people.
The Speaker also stressed that financial support alone was insufficient, noting that beneficiaries must be equipped with the practical knowledge required to successfully manage agricultural enterprises.
He expressed confidence that the programme would help beneficiaries become self-reliant while contributing to agricultural development and economic growth in Obio/Akpor and Rivers State.
