Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Sunday hosted Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at his Port Harcourt dwelling, marking a new push to solidify the truce between the former political partners.
The gathering marks their initial encounter since the governor revealed he would not pursue a second term in the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
Wike was joined at the meeting by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, along with the Chairman of the Rainbow Coalition peace panel, Magnus Abe. Fubara arrived alongside former APC Deputy National Chairman, Sam Jaja.
This encounter unfolded amid fresh attempts to patch up the fractured bond between Wike and Fubara following months of political turmoil that divided Rivers State.

Wike recently announced that his rift with Fubara had concluded, stating the governor concurred with rejoining the political caucus that backed his election in 2023.
Tensions between the two figures intensified shortly after Fubara took charge, sparking an extended political standoff across the state.
The friction triggered impeachment steps launched against Fubara by legislators allied with Wike, ultimately prompting President Bola Tinubu to proclaim a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State.
Both factions subsequently agreed to a ceasefire, leading Fubara to cross over to the APC and align with the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition.
After Wike proclaimed an end to the dispute, a resolution committee chaired by Abe was established to engage Fubara and his loyalists.
Fubara has since pledged his allegiance to the Rainbow Coalition and backed Chinda as his chosen successor for the 2027 governorship race.
