In a proactive move to tackle epileptic power and strengthen the council’s rural electrification, the Chairman of Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Chief Chima Njoku, has delivered 5,000-metre aluminium conductor to Amaekunne Community in Okehi II.
The delivery of the 5,000-metre drum aluminum condition is part of the chairman’s initiative to enable the community connect to the national grid.
Since inception, Amaekunne Community has been without electricity.
The conductor was officially handed over to the community’s traditional leadership, the Community Development Committee (CDC), and youth representatives, by the Chairman of the Etche Electricity Committee, Hon. Egbufor Abuchi, who represented the chairman.
Njoku revealed that the delivery was part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every community in the local government has access to electricity.
He explained that the project represented another significant milestone in the ongoing rural electrification programme of the Etche LG council to bring communities closer to enjoying a reliable power supply.
During the handover, the Ochimba of Amaekunne Community, Chief Nwanyanwu Hycient, highly commended the chairman for fulfilling his promise to the community.
He described the intervention as a landmark intervention which he said would improve the quality of life of residents and formally acknowledged receipt of the 5,000 metres of aluminium conductor.
Also the CDC Chairman, Comr. Darlington Chijioke Obilor, said Njoku’s intervention was historic.
According to him, “the electrification project marks the first time the community is on the verge of being connected to electricity since its creation.”
He assured the chairman of the community’s support and pledged to mobilize the youths in appreciation of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
Further, He prayed God Almighty to continue to grant the chairman wisdom, strength, good health, and divine guidance as he continues to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Etche.
