The Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, Hon. Akuro Tobin, has said his administration has remained faithful to the promises made to residents, insisting that his campaign commitments have been matched with visible and verifiable actions.
Speaking during the second phase of the Tobin Akuro Prosperity Pathway (TAPP) programme, Tobin said his administration remains committed to improving the welfare of the people through empowerment initiatives and infrastructure development.
He stated that the empowerment programme reflected his determination to improve the lives of Okrika residents through practical interventions rather than political promises.
The chairman also identified electricity as one of the major challenges confronting economic development in the area, saying no community can achieve meaningful growth without a stable power supply.
He dismissed claims that private individuals had been paying electricity bills on behalf of the community, maintaining that the local government had consistently borne the responsibility.
According to him, the current power outage in parts of Okrika resulted from damage to a high-tension pole at Akpajo, assuring residents that efforts were underway to restore electricity.
Tobin further announced plans by the council to replace 50 damaged high- and low-tension poles across the local government area to improve electricity distribution.
He added that meetings would be held with Community Development Committees (CDCs) to identify communities lacking electricity poles and transformers with a view to addressing the gaps.
The council chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects, saying the focus would remain on initiatives capable of improving living standards and accelerating development across Okrika Local Government Area.
