Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi has voiced deep concerns regarding his personal safety and the survival of his business enterprises.
He alleged a deliberate state-sponsored campaign to sabotage his livelihood and political future.
The former Governor of Anambra State made these assertions during an interview on the media program “With Chude”, hosted by Chude Jideonwo, which circulated on social media on Wednesday.
When questioned about his definitive participation on the ballot for the upcoming 2027 presidential election, Obi expressed uncertainty about his survival, stating that the current administration is intentionally undermining every sector of his livelihood.
He suggested that if the opportunity arose, the state would ensure he does not survive to contest the election.
While clarifying that his comments were not a formal or direct legal accusation, the opposition figure insisted that his daily life is marred by state-led interference.
He observed that while authorities avoid open confrontation, their influence is visibly apparent in the routine obstacles he encounters.
According to Obi, the hostility is part of a broader, coordinated effort targeting dissenting voices.
He stated that prominent opposition figures are facing personal attacks and noted that he has been stripped of the standard privileges and statutory entitlements typically accorded to individuals of his standing.
To highlight his claims, Obi recounted a recent incident at an airport where staff allegedly singled out and immobilized his vehicle while leaving adjacent vehicles unbothered.
He claimed that when he identified himself to the supervising officer, the official dismissed his identity entirely.
The politician also revealed that the alleged pressure has created a social barrier, explaining that close acquaintances and supporters are now distancing themselves in public to avoid potential government backlash.
He added that some supporters have gone so far as to formally request his absence from significant family milestones and weddings to shield themselves from political repercussions.
