Rivers State to Prioritise Predictable Policies Under Fubara’s Leadership

The Rivers State Government has once again emphasized their dedication towards setting up a very competitive, inclusive and predictable environment of doing business aimed at tapping the economic potential of the region and drawing investments from abroad.

As part of his pledge, Governor Siminalayi Fubara pledged on Friday during a Technical Workshop on Business-Enabling Reforms and Investment Competitiveness in Port Harcourt.

The targeted economic conference has been organised by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) in collaboration with the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency (RSIPA).

Addressing the workshop through the Secretary to the State Government, Dagogo Wokoma, the Governor said that he is fully dedicated to putting the state on the map as the number one investment destination in Nigeria.

The Governor highlighted that the state occupies an extremely important place in the economy of the nation because of its vibrant demographic structure, availability of rich natural resources, entrepreneurship culture and maritime facilities.

Fubara also mentioned that the experience of many developed countries reveals that rapid growth is possible when the institutional framework creates an enabling environment for private firms.

He stressed the event essentially in ensuring that all public and private sector actors could engage in reviewing regulatory obstacles, brainstorming and creating useful solutions to help reinforce the internal investment structure of the state.

In her keynote speech, the Director General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, congratulated the Rivers State Government for allowing full policy engagement.

According to her, PEBEC, which is a presidential program, seeks to overcome any form of administrative hurdles to enable businesses to thrive throughout the nation.

Audu observed that despite the fact that the federal government was committed to introducing tough regulatory frameworks that would help increase investor confidence, she said that real nationwide economic transformation was largely dependent on full institutional alignment within the federal, state and local governments.

Speaking in support of this view, the Director General of the Rivers State Investment Promotion Agency, Chamberlain Peterside, clarified that the main mandate of his agency was to remove any forms of impediments to corporate entities.

He said that RSIPA is working very hard to create an environment which would allow companies to operate easily and provide stable employment to the citizenry and pay taxes effortlessly, making the state an ideal place to invest private capital.
